Chiropractic

Non-Invasive + Hands-On

Chiropractic is a non-invasive, hands-on health care that focuses on the neuromusculoskeletal system.  For many centuries, manual adjustment techniques have been used on joints and they remain at the core of chiropractic care. They are frequently the primary method of treatment for various conditions, such as low back pain.

Chiropractic care may also be used to provide symptomatic relief for patients with chronic conditions. According to patient surveys, by treating the musculoskeletal elements of such disorders, chiropractic treatment has been shown to improve the general well-being of the patient.

What Does a Chiropractor Do?

Chiropractors are highly trained and educated – requiring a minimum of a three-year bachelor degree, and a five year Doctor of Chiropractic degree. They have comparable classroom hours as medical doctors and have excessive training to assess, diagnose, treat, and prevent conditions of the nervous, muscle, and skeletal systems. Chiropractors can also provide nutritional counselling, rehabilitation, and injury prevention.

Chiropractors are regulated primary care providers and are one of only five health care professions in Canada allowed the use of the title Doctor, with its accompanying rights and obligations.

What Should You Expect?

Your first visit will involve several steps, including a thorough exam. Plan to be at the office for about an hour. When you arrive, the office assistant will provide you some forms to fill out with your health history and personal information. If you have been involved in a motor vehicle accident or a work injury, there will be additional forms to fill out for coverage by MPI and WCB.

Please bring your Manitoba Health and Insurance Cards with you so that we can see what coverage you have!

Once in the exam room, the doctor and you will discuss your main complaints and your health history. The doctor will perform a series of exams and procedures to aid in the diagnosis. During this time, the doctor will explain and answer any questions about the findings and propose a comprehensive treatment plan to get you back to your optimal health!

How We Practice

We practice a manual approach, providing diagnosis, treatment and preventive care for disorders related to the skeletal, muscle, and nervous systems. We ensure that all treatments are tailored for your specific needs. It is essential for both parties to be working towards the same goal! This might include stretches and exercises, or changes that you need to do at home. If you have any questions, let your doctor know!

X-rays are not required to be adjusted. Chiropractors receive over 350 hours of radiology education, from protection, taking pictures, and reading the images. If the doctor determines an x-ray is needed, arrangements will be made.

Chiropractic adjustments usually do not hurt. Adjustments to certain joints in the spine or extremities may result in a feeling of increased pressure. In general, patients enjoy being adjusted and like the way that the adjustment feels.

Our Chiropractor, Dr. Weiss, has additional training in pregnancy, geriatric, and pediatric populations. Each patient will receive personalized care and treatment based on his/her needs.
