Athletic Therapy

Non-Invasive + Hands-On

Athletic Therapy is a non-invasive hands-on form that is shown to be effective at preventing, assessing, and treating all types of musculoskeletal (muscle, bones and joints) injuries  Therapists follow the Sports Medicine Model of care, but you do not have to be an athlete to book in! Athletic Therapists are trained to treat a wide range of patients from pediatrics to geriatrics, athletes to weekend warriors, a pulled muscle at the soccer field to a knee replacement for a senior, all while focusing on the patient and taking an ACTIVE approach to rehab.

What Does an Athletic Therapist  Do?

Treatment from an Athletic therapist can provide relief to new and chronic injuries, through the use of many techniques like modalities (such as shockwave), exercise prescription, manual therapies, taping, and bracing. The Athletic Therapists goal is to get you back to your normal whether that be competing in sports or planting your garden.

Their goal is to allow you to continue the rehab outside of clinic – you are in the real world a lot more than you are in the clinic on a treatment table! This approach typically results in a faster recover time and reduced chance of further injury, thus keeping you out of the clinic and back into your life.

What an Athletic Therapist Treats

A common misconception is that athletic therapy is only for athletes. This is not true! Athletic therapists treat many different people and conditions from kids with concussions to seniors recovering from a hip replacement. Further conditions are not limited to the following:

  • Acute injuries and conditions
  • Pre/post-surgical rehabilitation
  • Sprains, strains, tears, and tendonitis
  • Low back pain
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Sciatica
  • Disc herniation
  • Whiplash

Athletic therapists can help — no matter your age, ability, or fitness level.

Will my insurance cover Athletic Therapy treatments?

Probably! Several of them typically provide coverage, and we can direct bill some – just call your provider and ask what the coverage is and if you need a prescription. And bring that info and your card when you come!
